Last Tuesday afternoon I lugged to the post office, letters to 226 Federal Senators and MPs on behalf of a substantial 111 community groups! These community groups came from all states and territories across Australia.
Two weeks before, regional organisers from the 100% Renewable Campaign team had gotten busy with a fast and frantic call-around to their network of local community groups. They were inviting groups to sign onto a letter requesting our Federal Representatives’ responses to a series of questions about what they were doing to advance renewable energy.
This letter wasjust one action being taken by a growing number of community groups across Australia as part of the 100% Renewable Campaign. These groups are motivated by a vision for a fairer and cleaner Australia powered by 100% renewable energy. They, like I, know that 100% Renewable is 100% Doable, however most are frustrated by political inaction on renewable energy here in Australia and so jumped at the chance to add their voice.
Seeking political action for renewable energy
The letter is currently arriving on the desks of politicians around the country. The letter asks Federal MPs and Senators if they will back the introduction of a 'Fair Go for Renewables' Bill. This legislation would introduce a national feed-in tariff to drive investment in renewable energy at all scales, taking a large step closer to 100% renewable energy in Australia.
To those 111 groups who signed on to this letter - thank you! This is one important step of many in the campaign to win a 'Fair Go for Renewables' Bill and ultimately moving to an Australia powered by 100% renewable energy.
Thank you too to those politicians who fill out the survey – we’re looking forward to hearing what benefits you think renewable energy will bring, and what you are doing to make sure Australia is moving to a cleaner energy future.
