The Walk for Solar ended on 30th September with a resounding rally of 1500 people in Adelaide and a national groundswell of support was clearly evident in the 20 SOLARdarity Walks held around the country from Cable Beach in Broome to the top of Mt Kosciuzsko, in Perth and all up the east coast as far as Townsville and Cairns.
I was musing today that the Walk may be over but the journey is just beginning - a few metaphorical miles yet before we can rest easy. I was particularly struck by Gary Rowbottom, the worker from Alinta's existing coal-fired power stations, who spoke from the heart about his vision to build Port Augusta's PA-Solar 1 plant.
At the crack of dawn this morning, Gary, Dan Spencer and I are off on the first flight to Canberra to speak with Federal politicians of all persuasions about this opportunity to build Australia's first solar thermal plant with molten salt storage in Port Augusta..... I'll keep you posted on progress :-) Philippa
