We had a great day on Sunday at our 100% Renewables Launch in Ballarat, with over 50 people from BREAZE and elsewhere gathering under the tower of the historic Ballarat Railway Station to show their support for a renewable future.

Happily, we were joined by a contingent from west of Ballarat in places like Ararat and Pomonal where there are wind farms already operating or on the drawing board. There's plenty of noise being made by the anti-wind farm groups against any new developments. The vast majority of it is ill-informed and not backed up by any science.

The bods who came to join us were all completely supportive of wind farms and well understand their value for the local communities they live in. One has turbines from the Challicum Hills Wind Farm on their property and lives 800m away from the turbines. The only drawback he thinks is genuine is the flicker of the blades blocking sunlight. As this can easily be avoided by careful placement it really isn't a problem that should ever occur.

All the rest - the noise, the sicknesses, the threat to the birds (what bird that can see a mouse from 100m in the air is going to fly into a turbine blade the size of house!) - all the usual complaints are pretty much bollocks as far as he was concerned.

So there's a whole bunch of people out there who haven't had anything to do with climate action groups who want to be part of this campaign. Look out for fellow travellers!
