Hi it’s Dean from the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group in Castlemaine. My son Ronan and I were on regional Win TV on Monday June 22nd talking about the need for a National Feed in Tariff. We were asked to comment on the RET, or Renewable Energy Target, and what the amendments would mean for renewable energy in our area.
Kathryn McCallum from the Geelong Sustainability Group, has this wonderful article published in The Age this weekend. Great to see acknowlegement of all the hard work of the regional Victorian climate groups - and a nice little plug for the 100% campaign too!
100% Renewable has been making hay recently. After a packed Town Hall event featuring Bill McKibben, Tim Flannery, Clive Hamilton and Ross Garnaut, Jenny from Climate Change Balmain Rozelle addressed the packed hall, calling for a massive, nation wide door knocking effort and proudly displaying the 100% Renewable banner. Go Jenny!
Check out the write up we (and more specifically Jenny) got here
In Victoria momentum is building to close down Australia's dirtiest coal fired power station. The "Replace Hazelwood" campaign is inspiring stuff - See the YouTube video...it's just great, and this is the web address to see what the good people of Victoria are doing about it - climate advocacy majic at it's best.
After the flood of fabulous launch photos coming in from community groups around the country, I had lots of fun sorting and resizing and captioning them appropriately, putting them all into the slideshow that you can now see on the website front page, and uploading them to the flickr page.
Is the government stagnant on renewables? Two days before the budget, SBS news took a look at the federal government's progress on renewable energy, to answer that question.
Check it out and keep an eye out for a familar website in there!
Got a neat text message from a Sydney based climate groups participating in the 100% Renewable campaign launch last night. They were preparing thier local media statement and the text read: "Our local paper claims audited readership of 277,000. Even if the average is actually 10% of that, 70 groups and 70 paper = 2 million readers. OMG"!
I texted back "indeed, and thus revealing the true power of grassroots groups!"
The launch is so close you can smell it. How exciting. All the planning, the scoping out the best sign and now a few early pics are coming in! Fantastic.
I have an idea. When we think about getting media we tend to think about getting in the papers, which is great, because it is so tangible and you can cut the clip out later and put it on the fridge. (You do that too, right?)
Exciting news came to the ears of Climate Action Newtown members a few weeks ago - our local council was considering a proposal to build a demonstration wind farm in our area. The urban wind project, with micro turbines, would be located along the road to the international airport - a great opportunity to showcase this technology and the potential of renewables to a vast audience!
