Well 2012 has been a huge year for renewable energy. Keeping up with the speed of change in policy, politics, technology - and working through the challenges of ensuring the community voice is heard in the face of massive industry power - has my head hurting some working days! It’s not often you see me in a suit...but Origin Energy's CEO Grant King has recently got me hot enough under the collar to go into their Annual General Meeting (AGM) to ask some tough questions about his public campaign to water down Australia’s Renewable Energy Target (RET).

MEDIA RELEASE: Origin chief feels heat over anti-renewables stance

Shareholders of Australia’s largest energy retailer have today called on the AGM to block a proposed $3.75 million bonus for Origin Managing Director Grant King, because of his prolonged campaign to destabilise the Renewable Energy Target (RET).

People Power: Solar votes have the power to decide the next Federal election

For the first time Australia has a solar electorate map which shows where householders are investing in solar panels and hot water systems to cut their power bills.

The new map will help federal MPs see just how many solar voters there are in their local area and demonstrate how important the Renewable Energy Target is for their electorate.

The results of the People's RET Review are in!

Over 5000 Australians voted and overwhelmingly they wanted the Renewable Energy Target to be more ambitious:
  • 93 per cent of respondents want a higher 2020 Renewable Energy Target
  • 98 per cent want to see our renewable energy industry continue to grow with a 2030 target

The Walk for Solar ended on 30th September with a resounding rally of 1500 people in Adelaide and a national groundswell of support was clearly evident in the 20 SOLARdarity Walks held around the country from Cable Beach in Broome to the top of Mt Kosciuzsko, in Perth and all up the east coast as far as Townsville and Cairns.
